Why It’s So Hard To Delegate - And How To Improve.

You can begin the process of thinking about delegation by asking yourself this fundamental question: “Am I the best, cheapest person to do this work?”
How do you identify symptoms to know if you have a problem to delegate? Have people you work with recently come and asked you - “Well, I just don’t feel like I’ve got a path to growth here, or I don’t feel like I’m getting as much responsibility as I feel able to take on.” Think about this for a minute.
Try thinking about this too: “Have you recently given yourself a pat on the back for managerial work, basically?” This can help you evaluate whether you enjoy overseeing work rather than doing it.
Ask yourself, what do you do when employees come back to you asking for help?

Will Meta Glasses And Neural Band Replace Smartphones In A Few Years?
Rowan Cheung is in conversation with Mark Zuckerberg on Meta’s latest AI glasses, which were recently showcased at Connect 2025. This RayBan glass includes a built-in display, controlled by a band that reads muscle signals.
So, what are the interesting pieces to look at as possible future trends from this conversation:
“AI is going to be the most important technology in our lives. We want to make sure that AI is in service of people, not just like something that sits in data centers.”
“When you went from computers with the keyboard and mouse to phones with touchscreens, you kind of got a completely new input method. And the same, I think, is going to be true for glasses and having a neural interface where you can just send signals from your brain with micro muscle movements like this.”
“The neural band is going to be personalised to you over time. So it's going to learn how do you make W or J differently from someone else?”
“I think you're basically going to be able to just move your muscles in opposition to each other. Not even really move your hand and be able to send messages or control a UI with your hand at your side in a jacket pocket behind your back.”
“A lot of the optimization isn't going to be on our side or your side, it's going to be the machine learning system over time, getting personalized to you and getting better.”
“I just think you'll have models that you'll interact with directly,
that'll recommend content. It'll generate content. You'll be able to talk to it.”

Rethink Form Factors Of Legacy Products.
Meta’s announcement of glasses and a neural band raised a critical question as to what stops legacy products or brands from rethinking or even reimagining existing form factors? Why does it need an outsider from their industry to do it?
The case in point is Ray-Ban and Oakley. They have partnered with Meta to launch AI glasses. But what stops these brands from innovating on their existing form factors and introducing a new design rather than handing over development and partnership to a tech firm? History tells us that once these industries cede their positions to new tech entrants, their margins and competitive advantage tend to get lost over time.
Let’s look at mobile phones. When the iPhone was introduced in 2007, it blew away existing market leaders like Nokia and a new category of smartphones took over. Apple's iPhone form factor caught the market's imagination, and there was no looking back after that. Let’s take another example from the watch industry. In 2015, Apple's smartwatch redefined the utilities and unimaginable benefits of a wristwatch (such as integration with a smartphone, fitness apps, etc). Other legacy watch brands were completely disrupted by a new player outside the industry, such as Apple. If you think a little more about the automotive industry, it needed a Tesla to disrupt legacy automotive giants, to redesign and retool their products. One thought that kept coming back was “Are we now at the cusp of change, after 15 years of the iPhone, where new form factors are likely to emerge with many of the earlier generation devices?”
When you begin plotting and think about these changes, there are underlying fundamental shifts that you will see around, when new form factors begin to appear.
Technology Driver: The steam engine (between the 1700s and 1780s) and the internal combustion engine (around the 1860s and 1870s) were the primary drivers for the new form factors of transportation that emerged during that era. Between the 1760s and the 1880s, the latest innovations in transportation began to surface. 1886 was the year when Karl Benz’s Motorwagen was patented, marking the first practical, modern automobile. In the 1990s, the internet refined shopping, banking, travel, and more. The modern digital bank, a new form factor, is now primarily a mobile app (branchless banking), capable of handling all banking transactions through it. Legacy products need to study these trends and emerging new business opportunities or disruptions that are waiting to happen to them due to technological advancements.
Lifestyle Driver: As people’s lifestyles begin to change, new product form factors emerge. A mobile phone is one example of a mobility-driven lifestyle change, as people started to travel a lot and work across different geographies. Similarly, in 2000, digital stethoscopes, a new form factor in medical devices, emerged as the digital and active mobile lifestyle of people began to converge. Again, old legacy products must do ‘trendspotting’ on people’s lifestyle changes and start to build a blueprint of new factors, taking into account all these lifestyle changes that are beginning to take centre stage in people’s lives and across society.
Price-Value-Scale Driver: The new form factors of products also have a specific point at which the volumes start to drive the price down, leading to an acceleration in adoption. The form factor of fitness trackers is slowly shifting from bands to smart rings, which have started gaining traction due to lifestyle drivers such as health, fitness, and wellness getting into focus in consumers’ minds. It is also set to take a share out of pure jewellery-only products, as smart rings will be at the intersection of fashion and fitness—a new category that has not been seen before. Smart rings have experienced a slow but steady growth since the mid-2010s, primarily among early adopters. However, 2023 appears to be a key inflexion point, with approximately 880,000 units sold globally and strong forecasts of 2 to 2.5 million for 2025. The price points, which initially ranged from US$300 to US$400, are slowly beginning to fall as volumes increase with more players entering the market. This is a point where price and value start to make sense for consumers, facilitating mass adoption.
If you are in any industry, the most important trends to observe and work on are the disruption possibilities at the intersection of your industry’s products with technology drivers and lifestyle drivers that are reshaping the market and consumer experiences. The jewellery industry may not consider smart rings a direct competitor today. Still, just as the Apple Watch has taken a considerable share from the traditional watch industry, smart rings are likely to do the same. Hence, the reimagination of product boundaries is the foundational first principle and the starting point for new product form factors in your business. To remain a market leader in the future, you need to start thinking beyond capturing a share of the market from your competition.
Ask yourself this fundamental question: “What’s the new market I can create with my products which is at the intersection of technology and lifestyle changes that are happening around us?”
